Earthquake Program
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is one of 4 agencies authorized under the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) in 42 USC Section 7704 to administer programs to reduce the risks to loss of life and property from earthquakes (see www.nehrp.gov). FEMA and the other NEHRP agencies provide funding and guidance to states, local governments, academia, businesses, and non-profit organizations. FEMA supports the states that have moderate to high earthquake hazards and risks through their Earthquake Program. A t the state level, the person responsible for carrying out planning and preparing for reducing earthquake losses is the State Earthquake Program Manager.
Annual Meetings
The State Earthquake Program Managers meet annually to share best practices, learn what has been successful, and foster relationships.
